How Long Does a Traffic Study Take for a Commercial Project?

Municipalities and competent authorities require a Traffic Impact Study before licensing many large commercial projects — such as malls, showrooms, and stations. Understanding its duration helps you schedule your project without surprises.

What Is a Traffic Impact Study?

It is a technical study that estimates the volume of traffic the project will generate and its effect on the surrounding network, and proposes solutions for entrances, exits, parking, and junction organization to ensure smooth and safe movement.

Factors That Affect the Duration

The duration typically ranges from two weeks to several weeks, depending on the size and location of the project, the availability of traffic data, the number of junctions studied, and how quickly the authorities respond when approving the results.

Stages of the Study

The study moves through field data collection and traffic counts, then modelling and analysis, followed by proposing solutions and coordinating with the authority, and finally preparing the approved report. Each stage may require revisions that affect the timeline.

Our Advice

Start the study early, in parallel with the design — not after it is complete — so the licence is not delayed. At Cloud M&F we prepare traffic impact studies in line with the requirements of the relevant authorities and coordinate on your behalf through to approval.
